Best of Northern Vietnam in 7 Days
Tourists from all over the world will enjoy the many attractions that northern Vietnam has to offer them. It starts off with a beautiful visit to Hanoi, the capital, and then a train by night to Lao Cai. This is a city on the border of Vietnam and China. After this, you transfer to Sapa for more tourist-themed fun. Then, a return to Hanoi to look forward to, in which you take a look at Halon Bay, which is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. This is always a pleasure and has much to show you. The trip ends with a fun and much-loved eclectic day: kayaking, climbing around caves, relaxing in a deck chair, etc. The choice is yours.
Day 1: Hanoi Arrival (D)
Arriving in the capital city that is over 1 000 years old, a tour guide will be there to greet you. You will be able to explore the fantastic city which has a focus on arts and learning. You will be enchanted by the simple structures that make up this city. After spending the day exploring to your heart's content, you will end it by taking in a one of a kind water puppy show, a delicious “welcome” dinner at one of the more exquisite restaurants in the city, and a pleasant first night in the hotel.
Day 2: Hanoi city tour - Overnight train to Sapa (B, L, D)
Day 2 is packed to the gills with all of the main attractions that Hanoi has to offer: Ho Chi Minh Complex, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, House on Stilts and the One Pillar Pagoda just to name a few. The adventure continues with a visit to the Fine Arts Museum and the Temple of Literature, which is Vietnam's first University!
Your day will end with a fantastic cyclo tour around the old quarter of the city, sure to hold you attention and get the camera's flashing. You'll see shops selling silk clothing, embroidered linens, cooking utensils, ceremonial objects, etc. Plenty to take in and enjoy!
Lastly, you'll be guided to the Hanoi train station for your overnight train to Lao Cai. Never fear, you'll get a great dinner on the way!
Day 3: Cozy Sapa - Cat Cat Village (B, D)
Scheduled to arrive at 6: 30am, the first thing you will experience is the 1.5 hour drive to Sapa, where your wonderful hotel is. You are then treated to a scrumptious breakfast at a local restaurant. From there, you are free to explore wherever you wish in this exciting town.
In the afternoon you can take pleasure in a walking tour that takes in the hill tribes villages of Cat Cat, where the minority peoples make their home. You will even get to meet locals of the place on your tour. From there, you head back to the hotel for a wonderful night's sleep at your hotel.
Day 4: Sapa - Overnight train back Hanoi (B, L)
After another fantastic breakfast, you will head to the daily market which is a sight to be seen for sure. Following the finds there, you'll head out on a three to four hour walk that will give you some incredible sights to see, including buffalo trails. You'll see more tribal villages that house the H'mong, and Dzay peoples. From exquisite scenery to friendly people, you'll enjoy a lunch at a great restaurant along the way, and plenty of memories to save on your camera. At the end of the day, you'll be taken to the train station again and head back to Hanoi.
Day 5: Hanoi - Halong World Heritage (B, L)
As soon as you arrive back in this wonderful city, you'll be taken for a delicious breakfast at a local restaurant, and then whisked off to Halong Bay. You will enjoy lunch on a boat as you sail through the bay and take in the sights from the water. You will get a close up view of the lovely limestone islands that peek from the water to wink at you.
From there, you head to a fishing village, where you can have a chat with local fishermen who will happily tell you all there is to know about their lives there. It sure to be an enlightening experience.
Back on the boat, you can enjoy a relaxing time of cocktails and cooking classes as you watch the sunset, not to mention a fantastic supper meal that waits for you to enjoy. The day is topped off by a movie night, board games, or spa – whichever you prefer.
Day 6: Halong - Hanoi (Brunch)
Starting off with an energizing Tai Chi exercise, you get to work the kinks out of your body and watch the sunrise at the same time. From there you will cruise back to the dock and explore what is left to visit (and re-visit) in Halong before heading back for a relaxing evening and peaceful night. There is plenty to be enjoyed.
Day 7: Hanoi - Departure (B)
Back in Hanoi, you have a day to yourself to do whatever you want to do before your flight back to your home – loaded full of memories.
