Northern Tonkinese Delights and Halong Bay 9 Days

Day 1: Hanoi Arrival (D)
We arrange for your pick up from Hanoi international airport and transport you to one of the best hotels in the center of Hanoi. You get the entire day free. You have an overnight stay here.
Day 2: Hanoi - Son La (B, L, D)
Before leaving the city, you get a chance to visit the Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi. Then we embark on a long drive to Son La. You can have a great experience driving on the newly laid roads. You can experience the ethnicity of the Vietnamese local tribes such as the Black Thai, H’mong, Muong, and the White Thai. We pass through scenic hillsides. You can stop anywhere to soak in the beauty of nature. We have an overnight stay at Son La.
Day 3: Son La - Dien Bien - Lai Chau (B, L, D)
We set out early in the morning on a drive to Lai Chau via Dien Bien. You can find this small town nestled in one of the most beautiful valleys in Vietnam. You can find the spectacular mountains by the Da River. These forests are the scene of some of the fiercest battles in Vietnam history. You can have a good time at the Dien Bien museum, visit the headquarters of the former French Generals on Hill A1, and wander among the tombstones in the numerous cemeteries. We continue our journey to Lai Chau to visit the villages of the Dao and the H’mong minority communities. We take a well-deserved rest at Lai Chau.
Day 4: Lai Chau - Sapa (B, L, D)
We have an early morning breakfast here before visiting Binh Lu plateau. This is the converging point of the Dao, Lu, and the Nhang. We move ahead towards Sapa. On the way, we pass over the highest passes in Vietnam (2000m). We enjoy some of the best sceneries on the summit of the peak. They call this peak, “The Gate of Heaven.” We arrive at Sapa in the evening and check into a decent hotel. We have to spend the night here in Sapa.
Day 5: Sapa (B, L, D)
Today you will get a chance to visit some of the ethnic hill tribes in the villages around Sapa. You can have your breakfast in Sapa before walking out with the guide towards the colorful hill tribe market. We have a beautiful trek downhill to Lao Cai. You can find the Black H’mong minority in this quaint village. You can have a stunning view of the mountains on the way. We get to see the Catholic Church in Lao Cai and have a chat with the Black H’mong people. Of course, you have to take the help of your guide. Nobody expects the tourists to know the local language and dialect. We continue the trek to Ta Van. The Dzay ethnic minority are the main inhabitants of this village. You can come back to the hotel in the late afternoon to rest your tired legs. The special Saturday evening market is waiting for your patronage in Sapa. We rest for the night in Sapa.
Day 6: Sapa - Bac Ha - Lao Cai (B, L)
You had a great time in the Saturday market at Sapa. Today you can enjoy the marketing experience in Bac Ha. You leave Sapa early and head towards Bac Ha. On the way, you can encounter the hill people taking their wares for sale in the market. They allow you to take photographs with them. You can enjoy the local beer or coffee at any of the local restaurants on the way. The local soup is a tasty affair. This is the best place to watch people go about their chores of selling their wares in the market. It is an exhilarating experience. You can visit the H’mong King Palace in the afternoon. You have to come back early to catch the night train back to Hanoi. You spend the night in the train.
Day 7: Hanoi - Halong (B, L, D)
7.30 to 7.45: Our drivers pick you up from your hotel. You can enjoy the beautiful drive on the road to Halong Bay. The scenery is blissful as we travel through the countryside, soaking in the farmlands and the Red River delta. 10.30: We stop on the way for a short break.
12.30: We reach the Hon Gai wharf where we meet the captain and crew. We have a welcome drink followed by a cruise briefing. They explain the safety instructions and show us our check-in cabins.
13.00: Fresh seafood is on offer at lunch. We cruise along Vong Vieng floating village passing through beautifully shaped islands on the way.
15.30: After dropping anchor at Vong Vieng, you can visit the local houses and have a chat with the local fisher folks. You can have a swim as well as a kayak ride. The best part is that you can ride the kayak on your own.
17.00: Once back on board, you can enjoy the sunset and continue the cruise to Luom Bo for anchoring.
19.00: You can have a great dinner at Luom Bo. 21.00: you can retire for the night in your cabins.
Day 8: Halong - Hanoi (B, L)
06.30: You have a great cup of coffee on deck enjoying the morning landscape.
07.30: You get a light breakfast.
08.30: You start on your visit to Sung Sot cave, one of the most beautiful caves in Halong Bay.
09.30: You continue your cruise and relax on the ship while enjoying the views of the bay.
11.30: It is time for checkout.
12.00: You arrive at Hon Gai wharf and start on your return journey to Hanoi.
14.30: There is a brief stopover for visiting a ceramics factory at Dong Trieu.
16.30: Arrive in Hanoi. You have an overnight stay at Hanoi.
Day 9: Hanoi - Departure (B)
You have the day free up to your time of the flight back to your home.
