Northeast Loop 4 Days
The locale and the scenic beauty of the northeast mountain areas of Ba Be Lake, Cao Bang, and Ha Giang are nothing short of mesmerizing. Add to that an equally amazing platter of subcultures. This is one of the lesser-known paths and is frequented by hardened trekkers and travelers yearning for a glimpse of the majestic beauty and its minority inhabitants.
Day 1: Hanoi to Ba Be National Park via Thai Nguyen (L, D)
The journey starts at 8 o'clock in the morning as the guides pick you up in a car and drive to Thai Nguyen northwards through the delta region of the Red River. There is the Museum that showcases the Cultures of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups if you want to stop. Climbing the mountains, into the Ba Be National Park. We take a brief boat trip to the Tay village to spend the night in a homestay.
Day 2: Ba Be - Cao Bang (B, L, D)
Ba Be Lake is a natural mountain lake of Vietnam and is adorned by rugged limestone mountains. This place is the home of about 330 butterflies’ species. After having breakfast with our Tay hosts, we set out to explore the lake and the surrounding greenery. We then take the trekking route to the Dau Dang waterfall and head further north towards the Cao Bang city where we spend the second night of the trip.
Day 3: Ban Gioc Waterfall (B, L, D)
A picnic trip to the breathtaking Ban Gioc waterfall near the border of China, just north of Cao Bang is a lovely idea during the day. The natural beauty and majesty are at its peak with this 53m high and 300m wide cascading waterfall. The picturesque landscape is made complete by a karst topography playing background to the expansive rice paddy cultivation of the Tay, H'Mong, and Dzao groups. While returning to Cao Bang, we come across a 2144m stretch of the admirable stalactite formations of the Nguom Ngao Cavern. We spend the night in the city.
Day 4: Cao Bang to Hanoi via Lang Son (B, L)
The Memorial of War at Cao Bang offers a mesmerizing view of the surroundings – something that should never be missed. The famous ‘Highway 4’ goes through the mountain passes. The regional capital is a pass called Lang Son is an ideal trade route to China. Lang Son is the homeland of the Tho, Nung, Man, and Dzao. There are two markets in this area – the Dong Kinh and the Old Market. These markets offer almost anything a tourist might need for his travels as well as for souvenirs. Just about 2km away, lies the ruins of the Mac Dynasty Citadel near a couple of wonderful caves. The beautiful Tam Thanh Cave offers a fascinating view of the neighboring farmlands. The Nhi Thanh Cave has an entrance on which poems are carved by its discoverer back in the 18th century. Once all the beauty is soaked in, we make our way to return to Hanoi driving on a recently built highway; scheduled to reach by 20: 00.
