Northeast Vietnam Highlights 12 Days
This awesome trip is mostly for tourists or travelers who are interested in green eco tours and those interested in the traditions of the hill tribe people. This trip will last for 12 days and it will surely be a memorable one.
Day 1: Arrival Hanoi (D)
Transport to a hotel after meeting at Noi Bai International Airport.. Overnight at hotel in Hanoi.
Day 2: Hanoi city tour (B, L)
Tour of the city. The Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and the museum will be visited followed by the Temple of literature. You can discuss with your tour guide if you have any other site you are interested in visiting. Places you will enjoy are the Old Quarter, Fine Art Museum, Army Museum and temples. You will also enjoy a late afternoon water puppet show. Overnight in Hanoi.
Day 3: Hanoi - Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang (B, L, D)
A full day trip from Hanoi through Tuyen Quang to Ha Giang Town. You will pass through a dense jungle and cross a valley and a rice field. As the journey progresses, you will pass through some hill tribe groups like the Nung Ing, Tay, Dao Ao Dai, La Chi and Pa Then. Overnight at hotel in Ha Giang.
Day 4: Ha Giang - Sa Phin - Dong Van (B, L, D)
Dong Van and Meo Vac is a remote region with lots of rugged mountains and beautiful hill villages which have been there for centuries. The journey today is towards the northernmost tip of Vietnam, and even though the trip is long and bumpy, the lovely mountainous scenery and colourful costumes of the hill tribe people at the former H'mong royal house at Sa Phin, will make you forget the lengthy trip and give you a wonderful experience. Overnight in Dong Van.
Day 5: Dong Van - Meo Vac - Ha Giang (B, L, D)
Dong Van is one of the most beautiful markets in Vietnam. You will visit it in the morning and then proceed to the peak of Ma Pi Leng. From the peak, you can see the views of the rocky mountain, rivers and terraces. Later you will visit the beautiful Meo Vac market, the cattle market, and the food sections. Then lunch at Yen Minh before you return to Ha Giang. Overnight in Ha Giang's homestay.
Day 6: Ha Giang - Bac Me - Bao Lac (B, L, D)
Today you will leave early in the morning and travel through the rolling hills and the picturesque scenery of Ba Be National Park. It will be a very bumpy journey but the main attraction is we will get to meet the H'mong, Dao, Tay and Nung ethnic minorities who are numerous in this region. We will surely be a center of attraction in the region because they usually don't have many people visiting them.
Day 7: Bao Lac - Ba Be Lake (B, L, D)
We will visit the Black & Flower Lolo, the San Chi, Tay, H'mong people in the small market. The people are mostly found selling local textiles and handicraft in hill towns and small shops along the village. Then we have lunch and proceed to Ba Be Lake through Nguyen Binh. Overnight at Ba Be national park lodge.
Day 8: Ba Be Lake - Cao Bang (B, L, D)
Today's tour will take us on a boat cruise on the Nang River. The Nang River is the main water source of the legendary lake of Ba Be. Ba Be means "three lakes" but is one flowing water body. We will be able to view the sweet and peaceful countryside during the river trip and also visit the Ba Be National Park. Then we will pass through the Poong Grotto and visit some nearby hill tribe villages before going to the scenic Dau Dang Waterfall. After that, we will take an afternoon drive to Cao Bang. Overnight at hotel in Cao Bang.
Day 9: Cao Bang - Ban Gioc Waterfall - Lang Son (B, L, D)
We will leave from Cao Bang to Ban Gioc Waterfall (Trung Khanh) to view the beautiful handmade water reeling scenery made by the Nung People. This transports water from the stream to the rice fields. We will then take a walk to the big Ngam Ngao Cave. It is unexplored and has natural stalactites. You are advised to wear suitable attires because you will likely get wet. From the cave, we'll take a boat cruise to the Ban Gioc Waterfall, which is on the same border with China. Here you will meet many other people who have come from China also to see and enjoy the waterfall. After eating our boxed lunch, afternoon drives to Lang Son. Overnight at hotel in Lang Son.
Day 10: Lang Son - Halong (B, L, D)
We will take a drive through the Red River Vegetation to Halong Bay pier where we will check-in and board our boat for a breathtaking cruise, enjoy the limestone backdrop while having lunch on board. We will cruise through the exotic islets which were formed naturally by erosion between the sea water and limestone. The exotic islets are in shapes of Dog, Incense Urn, Sail, and Fighting Cocks. We will then stop at a Surprise Cave and also visit the Luon cave by bamboo a row sampan. This cave goes through a mountain's foot and leads to an exotic lagoon surrounded by mountains covered by dense jungle. The tunnel is natural. Dinner is seafood and you can night paddle if you want to. Overnight on Halong Junk (twin A.C cabin).
Day 11: Halong - Ha Noi (B)
Watch the sunrise on the sea early in the morning as the boat sails again through the stunning Halong Bay. After a wonderful breakfast, you explore Tortoise, Man's head islands. Take brunch on board and then return to the wharf before being transported back to Hanoi. Overnight at hotel in Hanoi.
Day 12: Hanoi Departure (B)
This is a day of rest and shopping before going to the airport for the departure flight.
